Special Notice: Ingvar Bergstrom Library and Archives

In 1998 the Heinz Family Foundation acquired the papers of the Swedish art historian Ingvar Bergstrom (1913-1996.) The Foundation is pleased to announce that these papers are now available to outside researchers at its offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Professor Bergstrom received his Ph.D. in 1947 from the University of Gothenburg, where he was appointed Assistant Professor of the History of Art and, in 1958, was named Research Professor. In addition to the seminal Dutch Still Life Painting in the Seventeenth Century, Professor Bergstrom also authored other key works in the history of art; he lectured; and he contributed to many exhibition catalogues and art journals.

While Professor Bergstrom was a scholar of Baroque painting with particular expertise in the still life genre, his collections also reflect his interest in symbolism, the detection of art forgery, and other periods of art history. The Ingvar Bergstrom Collections include Professor Bergstrom’s manuscripts, artists reference files, correspondence, and his library of over 2,600 volumes of artist monographs, lexicons, exhibition catalogs, sale catalogs, and other scholarly works.

We welcome researchers by appointment; those interested should contact Darcy Newbold at +1 412-497-5775 or via e-mail at dnewbold@heinzoffice.org.
